AT&T improves broadband capacity for Sanibel customers

On Tuesday, AT&T announced it has upgraded three cell sites in Hendry, Glades, and Charlotte counties to high speed mobile broadband and added extra mobile broadband capacity to another 18 sites in Lee, Collier, Glades and Hendry counties.

The upgrades are part of AT&T’s continuing local network investment to support growing demand for advanced mobile devices and applications. Customers are expected to experience improved mobile broadband coverage with faster speeds and voice performance as a result of the project.

Three cell sites in Moore Haven, LaBelle and Punta Gorda have been upgraded with mobile broadband technology to provide accelerated mobile data speeds and simultaneous voice and data capabilities. The AT&T wireless network is nation’s fastest mobile broadband network.

The capacity upgrade to 18 sites is benefitting the areas of Sanibel, Alva, Cape Coral and Fort Myers in Lee County; Naples and Immokalee in Collier County; Moore Haven in Glades County; and Clewiston and LaBelle in Hendry County.

Adding extra capacity to a cell site is like widening a highway – you’re creating more lanes to accommodate increasing traffic.

“Our goal is for our customers to have an extraordinary experience. As part of the Southwest Florida community, we’re always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage, and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way we’re accomplishing that,” said Rich Guidotti, vice president and general manager, AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets for West, Central and North Florida. “In addition, our recently announced agreement to acquire T-Mobile USA will strengthen and expand our network. If approved, this deal means that we’ll be able to expand the next generation of mobile broadband – 4G LTE – from our current plan of 80 percent of the U.S. population to more than 97 percent.”

“Florida has set the standard for building jobs and investment based on a consumer-focused environment,” added Marshall Criser, lll, AT&T Florida president. “Just recently, our elected leaders reinforced that commitment by passing the Regulatory Reform Act sponsored by Senator David Simmons, Representative Mike Horner and primary co-sponsor Representative Alan Williams. Through their insight and the leadership of Governor Rick Scott, Senate President Mike Haridopolos and House Speaker Dean Cannon, Florida has one of the most competitive economies for technology investment. As customer demand for services like mobile broadband grows, all Floridians benefit from the choices available to them and the workforce that is needed to meet expanding demand.”

AT&T has the broadest international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to voice service in more than 220 countries and data service in more than 200 countries. AT&T also offers voice and data roaming coverage on more than 135 major cruise ships, as well as mobile broadband services in more than 130 countries. KELLY STARLING
